Our whole eight-day journey will cover three different destinations including the Lake Maggiore & Como areas, Alba county and Milan city. This will offer a good mix of beautiful countryside scenery, gourmet dining and sophisticated shopping in a metropolitan city.

The trip will also be a perfect opportunity for us to tuck into the great feasts of white truffle, in the land where these delicacies originate from. Fresh and authentic from Alba, the white truffle cuisines will be prepared by master chefs whose cooking skills are passed down and perfected through the generations. We’re real foodies so picking the date of travel to savour the finest, in-season white truffle is serious business!

Some of you may have heard of the “White Truffle Festival” in Alba commencing on 7 Oct this year with a donkey race and medieval costume parade. But the real great stuff would only be harvested in early November. For those who are unaware of its true value, Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho paid over HK$1 million for the tuber, weighing 1,000 grams of it. Connoisseurs say the best white truffle weighs only about 40 grams and is the size of golf ball packing the most intense flavours. We will order white truffles of this optimal size for all the four truffle meals that we will be having. Each guest in our group will be treated to 50 grams costing around HK$5,000. Besides truffle, we will also be tasting snails, cadon (local vegetables), trout caught from wild rivers and the freshest shrimps and fish from the Mediterranean Sea.

To ensure the meals suit our Asian palates, I was in Italy recently to meet with the chefs of different restaurants and choose menus to ensure culinary variety, complete with the most compatible wine pairings.

So look forward to our truffle and other gourmet attractions which will leave you memories of a lifetime!

All the destination activities listed in the itinerary are covered, along with the gourmet dinners with wine pairings mentioned.

Stretching through woods, lakes and streams, the golf course enjoys superb views over the majestic, snow-capped peak of the Alps and Monte Rosa, looming in the distance. Day 4 Lake Maggiore region - Alba

Check out of hotel in the morning and head for the hills of Alba. On the way, stop for a game at the Castel Conturbia Golf Club. Surrounded by peaceful woodland, here is an excellent Stay & Play venue, home to 27-holes of wonderfully crafted parkland golf. This is a big dimension, roaming layout, with its three nine-hole loops (Blue, Red and Yellow) set in wonderfully natural, undulating woodland. Several elevated tee-boxes look down on pleasantly tree-lined fairways, which in turn steer you to Castel Conturbia's challenging greens. Lunch on own at the clubhouse.

Our coach will take you to the best four-star Hotel Calissano in Alba (as there is no five star hotel in this rural village of Alba), a brand new, large and modern hotel just a block or two away from the old section of Alba and right in the town centre. If time permits, we can visit the truffle market festival that takes shape around this time of the year.

Dinner will be arranged at one of the finest truffle restaurants Alba has to offer. It is committed to sourcing the finest ingredients of the region, whether they are as rare as white truffles or as familiar as butter. During the truffle season, the restaurant staff will usually perform a truffle shaving ceremony. The white truffle served there is guaranteed fresh, within three days of it being dug up. The truffle menu spans a wide range of dishes, from meat to omelets and noodles. Equal care is given to the wine cellar, which includes some of the finest, hard-to-get labels of the area.

Day 5– Alba

Set off after breakfast on a truffle hunting trip with an experienced local guide and his Labrador dogs, as this is a really exciting way to discover the stunning countryside of northern Italy. The truffle hunters are a unique breed, wandering the woodland at dawn and dusk with their dogs as their most trusted companions.

Lunch will be taken at a countryside restaurant featuring white truffle specialties, along with freshly caught trout from the wild. Red and white wine will be available to go with these delicacies. In the afternoon, our itinerary will continue with a winery tour around the Bricco Rocche vineyard of Ceretto, just south of Alba. Our leisurely stroll around the vineyard will be rounded off with a wine tasting session. .

For dinner, we will eat at another famous truffle restaurant. Located in a modern villa with a comfortable, elegant ambience, it is suitable for both business lunches and intimate dinners. It has a large selection of wines to complement the local Piedmont specialties, which include risotto risotto al Barolo, finanziera (mixed offal stew) a la Cavour, lamb chops with artichokes, and for dessert, hazelnut cake. In autumn, the menu is extended to include a wide array of truffle dishes.

Featuring an imposing neoclassical facade, this excellent hotelcombines old-fashioned opulence and cutting-edge technology and style.

For lunch, we will proceed to Osteria restaurant. The setting is a traditional country inn, where a wood fire warms the rustic interior in winter. The menu changes regularly, with wild porcini mushrooms among the favored ingredients in autumn. The rich, imaginative seasonal cuisine is composed.

After lunch, a visit will be made to Milan’s largest shopping district, Duomo area famous for its numerous fashion boutiques.
